Card Trivia

Original
==History==
Osiris (Greek language, also Osiris; the Egyptian language name is variously transliterated Asar, Aser, Ausar, Ausir, Wesir, or Ausare) is the Egyptian god of life, death, and fertility. He is one of the oldest gods for whom records have been found and first appears in the Pyramid Texts around 2400 BC, when his cult is already well established. He was widely worshiped until the forcible suppression of paganism in the Christian era. Osiris was not only the redeemer and merciful judge of the dead in the afterlife, but also the underworld agency that granted all life, including sprouting vegetation and the fertile flooding of the Nile River. The Kings of Egypt were associated with Osiris in death such that as Osiris rose from the dead so would they, in union with him, inherit eternal life through a process of imitative magic. By the New Kingdom all people, not just pharaohs, were believed to be associated with Osiris at death if they incurred the costs of the assimilation rituals.
Osiris is the oldest son of the Earth god, Geb, and the sky goddess, Nut as well as being brother and husband of Isis, with Horus being considered his posthumously begotten son. He is usually depicted as a green-skinned pharaoh wearing the Atef crown, a form of the white crown of upper Egypt with a plume of feathers to either side. Typically he is also depicted holding the crook and flail which signify divine authority in Egyptian kings, but which were originally unique to Osiris and his own origin-gods (see below), and his feet and lower body are wrapped, as though already partly mummified. The information we have on the myths of Osiris is derived from allusions contained in the pyramid texts, and, much later, in narrative style from the writings of Plutarch and Diodorus Siculus.
The Original Promo Egyptian God Cards are illegal to use in any and all real duels (both Traditional and Advanced Format alike), and they also have no effects, but they can be used in The Sacred Cards, Nightmare Troubadour, Spirit Caller, Tag Force 2, 3, 4 and 5 (via UMD recognition) 5D's Stardust Accelerator, 5D's Reverse of Arcadia and 5D's Over the Nexus.

Slifer the Sky Dragon

DIVINE/Divine Beast/10/?/?

If this effect reduces the amount to 0 or less the monster is destroyed.

Further research compiled from both what has been stated in the Anime/Manga and video games, has yielded what it's placed below as the powers Slifer possesses in his entirety in the Anime.

==Video game effects==

==Misc.==
This card is inspired by the same Egyptian God - Osiris - that
Hieratic Dragon of Asar is.
This card along with
Ra are two of the three Gods to make some kind of appearance in three of the five series.
The English name of this card was named after 'Roger Slifer', an employee of 4Kids.
Because of that, it is the only Egyptian God not to be named after its Japanese counterpart as the two other Egyptian Gods were.
This card has a
Wicked God counterpart called The Wicked Eraser.
This card has a
Sacred Beast counterpart called Uria, Lord of Searing Flames.
This card appears in the artwork of
Quiz Panel - Slifer 10, 20 and 30, and the second OCG artwork of Raigeki.
Since the
Egyptian God cards were color-coded according to their skin colors, the unplayable version of Slifer the Sky Dragon is the first (and currently only) card to be color-coded red.
In the Japanese version of
Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters, this card, and the other Egyptian God cards are in English, while still using their Japanese names.
In the Japanese version of
Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters, Defense is misspelled as Deffence on this, and other Egyptian God cards.
This card's original (illegal) version is currently the only official
Yu-Gi-Oh! card to have a letter character (X) in its ATK and DEF stats.
This monster along with Yami Yugi appears on page 12 of chapter 104 of Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo manga by Yoshio Sawai.
The corresponding episode of the anime reused a different gag instead, as Toei, who produced the TV version of
Bobo-bo, no longer had the rights to Yu-Gi-Oh!
In the
Millennium World manga, Slifer is also known as The Dragon King of the Sky (天空の竜王 Tenkū no Ryūō).
The background of this card was used in the video game Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories as one of the Forbidden Ruins wall designs. Interestingly, the hexagram was not edited out in the international card artwork, yet the
Forbidden Memories international version had it replaced with an hexagon.
The artwork of the illegal version of this card is taken from Yu-Gi-Oh! Duelist Duel 113:
Summon the Nightmare, specifically from the panel showing this monster being Summoned.
This card's second alternative artwork resembles the pose Slifer takes from its flashback appearance in
Yu-Gi-Oh! The Dark Side of Dimensions.
Besides the first time Slifer was summoned by Yami Yugi, he always used
Queen's Knight, King's Knight and Jack's Knight" as tributes to summon Slifer.

The effect to send itself to the Graveyard during the End Phase in which this card is Special Summoned starts a chain.: Effect Monster > Slifer the Sky Dragon

The effect that activates when the opponent Normal Summons or Special Summons a monster in Attack Position is a Trigger Effect, the 2000 ATK reduction occurs at resolution, and it does not target.

The ATK reduction lasts as long as the monster that had its ATK reduced remains face-up on the field.

If a monster with 2000 ATK or less is Normal or Special Summoned in face-up Attack Position and the effect of "Slifer the Sky Dragon" is activated, the effect of "Stardust Dragon" cannot be activated.: If a monster with 2000 ATK or less is Normal or Special Summoned in face-up Attack Position and the effect of "Slifer the Sky Dragon" is activated, can the effect of "Stardust Dragon" be activated in a chain?

Even if "The Wicked Avatar" is affected by the effect of "Slifer the Sky Dragon", the effect of "The Wicked Avatar" that makes its ATK 100 points higher than the highest ATK on the field is applied immediately. Therefore, it is not destroyed by the effect of "Slifer the Sky Dragon".: If a "The Wicked Avatar" is Normal Summoned and its ATK is reduced to 0 by the effect of "Slifer the Sky Dragon", is "The Wicked Avatar" destroyed?

Even when a monster whose original ATK is 0, the effect of "Slifer the Sky Dragon" activates. However, since its impossible to reduce the ATK of the monster with the effect of "Slifer the Sky Dragon" that reduces the ATK by 2000, the monster is not destroyed.: If a monster whose original ATK is 0 is Normal Summoned while "Slifer the Sky Dragon" is on the field, does the effect of "Slifer the Sky Dragon" activate?
Also, is the monster with 0 original ATK destroyed?

If the player that controls "Slifer the Sky Dragon" has 2 cards in their hand, so that "Slifer the Sky Dragon" has 2000 ATK, and the effect of "Blackwing - Gale the Whirlwind" that halves the ATK and DEF of the targeted monster is activated, the ATK of "Slifer the Sky Dragon" becomes 1000. Afterwards, if the number of cards in the hand of the player that controls "Slifer the Sky Dragon" varies, the ATK remains at 1000.: If the player that controls "Slifer the Sky Dragon" has 2 cards in their hand, and "Slifer the Sky Dragon" is targeted by the effect of "Blackwing - Gale the Whirlwind", what is the ATK of "Slifer the Sky Dragon"?
Also, after the effect of "Blackwing - Gale the Whirlwind" resolves, if the number of cards in the hand of the player that controls "Slifer the Sky Dragon" varies, what is the ATK of "Slifer the Sky Dragon"?

If multiple monsters are Summoned in face-up Attack Position, the effect of "Slifer the Sky Dragon" will activate. Furthermore, the ATK of all of the Summoned monsters is reduced by 2000, and those whose ATK becomes 0 are destroyed.: If multiple monsters are Summoned in face-up Attack Position to the opponent's side of the field with the effect of "Return from the Different Dimension", does the effect of "Slifer the Sky Dragon" activate?

If you control 2 copies of "Slifer the Sky Dragon" and the opponent Normal or Special Summons a monster, both copies of "Slifer the Sky Dragon" will activate their effects.
For example, if the opponent Summons "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" in face-up Attack Position, the effect of each "Slifer the Sky Dragon" are activated as chain 1 and 2 respectively, and the end result is that the ATK is reduced to 0 and "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" is destroyed.: If you control 2 copies of "Slifer the Sky Dragon" and the opponent Normal or Special Summons a monster, do both copies of "Slifer the Sky Dragon" activate their effects?

If the monster Summoned by the opponent is flipped to face-down Defense Position, its ATK is not reduced by 2000 by the effect of "Slifer the Sky Dragon". Also, even if the face-down Defense Position monster had 2000 ATK or less, since its ATK is not reduced by the effect of "Slifer the Sky Dragon", it is not destroyed.: When the opponent Summoned a monster in face-up Attack Position and the effect of "Slifer the Sky Dragon" activated, "Book of Moon" was activated in a chain, flipping the Summoned monster to face-down Defense Position. In this scenario, the Summoned monster is no longer in Attack Position, so is its ATK reduced by 2000 by the effect of "Slifer the Sky Dragon"?

If at the time of the resolution of the effect of "Slifer the Sky Dragon" that reduces ATK by 2000 the opponent's Summoned monster switches control to your side of the field, the ATK is reduced by 2000, and if the ATK becomes 0, the monster is destroyed.: If at the time of the resolution of the effect of "Slifer the Sky Dragon" that reduces ATK by 2000 the opponent's Summoned monster switches control to your side of the field, is the ATK still reduced by 2000?

If "Slifer the Sky Dragon" is targeted by "Shrink", after its ATK becomes half of its original ATK, its effect that causes its ATK to become the number of cards in your hand x 1000 is applied once again, and the ATK ends up being the number of cards in your hand x 1000. Also, even after the effect of "Shrink" wears out, the ATK is still the number of cards in your hand x 1000. Furthermore, even if the number of cards in your hand varies, the ATK varies according to the number of cards in your hand.: If "Slifer the Sky Dragon" is targeted by "Shrink", what does its ATK become?
Also, after the effect of Shrink wears out, what does the ATK of "Slifer the Sky Dragon" become?
Furthermore, if "Slifer the Sky Dragon" is affected by "Shrink", and the amount of cards in the hand of its controller varies, what does the ATK of "Slifer the Sky Dragon" become?

When your opponent Normal Summons or Special Summons a monster with 4000 ATK, the effect of "The Wicked Dreadroot" is applied immediately, making the Summoned monster's ATK 2000, and then the effect of "Slifer the Sky Dragon" activates, reducing the ATK of that monster by 2000. Therefore, the end result is that the Summoned monster's ATK becomes 0, and it is destroyed by the effect of "Slifer the Sky Dragon".: There's an "Slifer the Sky Dragon" and a "The Wicked Dreadroot" on the field, and the opponent Summons a monster with 4000 ATK. In this case, what does the ATK of the Summoned monster become?

If your "Slifer the Sky Dragon" and other opponent's monsters are Special Summoned simultaneously by the effect of "Dimension Fusion", the effect of "Slifer the Sky Dragon" does not activate.: If your "Slifer the Sky Dragon" and other opponent's monsters are Special Summoned simultaneously by the effect of "Dimension Fusion", does the effect of "Slifer the Sky Dragon" that lowers the ATK of the opponent's monsters and destroys them if the ATK reaches 0 activate?

If a monster Special Summoned in Defense Position is immediately changed to Attack Position by the effect of "Final Attack Orders", it is considered to be in face-up Attack Position at the time of the Summon being successful. Therefore, the effect of "Slifer the Sky Dragon" will activate.: While "Final Attack Orders" is active, the opponent Special Summoned a monster in Defense Position.
In this case, since the Battle Position of the opponent's monster is immediately changed to Attack Position, is the effect of "Slifer the Sky Dragon" activated?

You can Tribute Summon "Slifer the Sky Dragon" or "The Wicked Dreadroot" from your hand by tributing an opponent's monster affected with "Soul Exchange".: Can you Tribute Summon "Slifer the Sky Dragon" or "The Wicked Dreadroot" from your hand by tributing an opponent's monster affected with "Soul Exchange"?
