This card has a different English naming format than the other two Gate Guardian components. In Japanese the components are called: Thunder Devil - Sanga, Wind Devil - Hyuga, and Water Devil - Suga. Sanga is the only one who kept its name; where the other two were named for their element (Kaze/Sui is wind/water respectively) and jin a Japanese word meaning god.

The monster effect of "Sanga of the Thunder" is a Quick Effect.: Sanga of the Thunder
This effect can be activated during damage calculation during the opponent's Battle Phase when this card is attacked by an opponent's monster.
This effect targets the 1 monster that attacked "Sanga of the Thunder".
This card's effect makes the ATK
A marker may be placed on this card to indicate that its effect has been used. The effect resets if the monster is destroyed or removed from the field.
You can use the effect of this card even if it is face-down when it is attacked because its effect is activated during the Damage Step, and it will be face-up at that point.
The effect of this card targets.
After the Struggle: Even if the Battle Damage is reduced to 0 by the effect of "Sanga of the Thunder", etc., both the attacking and defending monster are still destroyed during the End Step by this card’s effect.
Last Turn: Vs. "Sanga of the Thunder", "Kazejin", "Suijin": If the turn player Special Summons any of these monsters for "Last Turn", he/she cannot activate the effect. However, if the player who activates "Last Turn" selects one of these monsters, he/she can activate the effect during the special Battle Phase.
Waboku: Player A activates "Waboku". Player A's "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" then attacks Player B's "Sanga of the Thunder". Player B uses "Sanga of the Thunder's" effect (during the Damage Step). RESULT: Player A's "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" (ATK 0) is not destroyed, nor does Player A lose any Life Points, because of Player A's "Waboku".
