In ancient Japan, thunder was thought to be caused by a deity named Raijin, the god of lightning (rai meaning thunder and jin meaning god or spirit). However, this monster lacks the circle drum and drum sticks the deity is often depicted carrying shown by other Thunder monsters like Thunder Nyan Nyan.
This card has a female counterpart, Rai-Mei.
This is one of the few cards whose Japanese name consists entirely of English alphabetical characters and punctuation.
This is the first card in all of Yu-Gi-Oh! with a ? stat for its ATK that does not explicitly mention the value of it in its card text. Holactie the Creator of Light has a similar property.
Despite not mentioning directly, however, Rai-Jin can still value the ? stat based on its own effect. The only way Holactie cannot is because it ends the game as soon as it is Special Summoned.
This monster, and Kasha are the only cards in the entire game with a ? ATK value, and a non-zero/non-variable DEF value. In this case, they both share the same common DEF of 1000.

OCG Rulings
The effect of "Rai-Jin" which destroys a monster during the End Phase is a Trigger Effect. This effect targets one LIGHT monster on your side of the field.: Effect Monster > Rai-Jin
Even if "Skill Drain" is negating the effect "There can only be 1 of this card face-up on the field." of a monster like "Rai-Jin" or "Guardian of Order", the effect of copies of "Rai-Jin" or "Guardian of Order" in your hand will still be active, so you still cannot Normal Summon a second copy of "Rai-Jin" or "Guardian of Order
If "Rai-Jin" is face-up on your side of the field and you don't have any LIGHT Monsters in your Graveyard, "Rai-Jin's" ATK is 0.
