In Greek mythology, Prometheus was a Titan who went against the orders of Zeus and brought fire to humans. He was punished by being tied to the top of a mountain, and having an eagle eat his liver every day (which regenerated).
This card’s Japanese name translates to Dark King Prometheus. The Japanese names of this card, Lich Lord, King of the Underworld and Diabolos, King of the Abyss each correspond to the Japanese name of one of the three Deck Destruction Virus cards; in this case, Eradicator Epidemic Virus.
This card also resembles the dark Image Comics superhero Spawn.
This is the first card to be reprinted in two different Gold Series, a Gold Rare in Gold Series, and as a Common in Gold Series 4: Pyramids Edition.
This card has a DEF boosting counterpart, Maniacal Servant".
