This monster's wings resemble a biological hazard symbol. This is fitting because pandemics are diseases that affect large areas, which alludes to its effect of weakening monsters' ATK, as if they had a disease.
This card and Doom Virus Dragon are very similar. Both are DARK Dragon monsters with a diseased connotation. They both also fare well in Virus Control Decks. Like the latter, this card may also be based on the Guivre, a dragon in European mythology known for spreading disease.
Both monsters were also used by Seto Kaiba in the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime.
In the anime, this card trumpets like an elephant instead of roaring like other Dragons.
