The artwork and effect of Shadow Spell is reminiscent of this card. Also, this card is used in the anime by Jack Atlas while Shadow Spell is used by Seto Kaiba, who is seen as Jack's counterpart in Yu-Gi-Oh!. Jack Atlas also used Shadow Spell against Yusei Fudo in a flashback seen in the the second episode of Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's.
