This effect is a Quick Effect that must be chained directly to the card or effect that is targeting "Arcana Knight Joker".: Ancient Prophecy – Card Rulings (version 1.0)

This effect does not target.

Discarding a card is a cost to activate the effect.

You cannot discard a card to negate the effects of "Premature Burial" or "Call of the Haunted" that destroy "Arcana Knight Joker" when they are destroyed.

You can activate this effect during the Damage Step.

If this card is sent to the Graveyard after being Fusion Summoned, it can be Special Summoned by the effect of "Monster Reborn".: Arcana Knight Joker

The effect "Once per turn, during either player's turn, if this face-up card on the field is targeted by a Spell Card, Trap Card, or monster effect: You can discard the same type of card (Spell, Trap, or Monster Card); negate the effect." is a Quick Effect. (It cannot be activated during the Damage Step.))

The effect of "Arcana Knight Joker" does not target. Its effect is activated in a Chain directly to the activation of a Spell/Trap Card or monster effect that targeted "Arcana Knight Joker". (It cannot be activated in a Chain to the activation of the effect of a Spell/Trap Card.)

If a monster effect is activated, you must discard 1 Monster Card as a cost to activate the effect of "Arcana Knight Joker". (If a Spell Card is activated, you must discard 1 Spell Card as a cost. If a Trap Card is activated, you must discard 1 Trap Card as a cost)
