Card Trivia

This monster appears in the artwork of Jewels of the Valiant and Nekroz Cycle.
Sophia (Σοφία) is the Greek word for wisdom.
This card is based on the Aeon Sophia in Gnostic Mythology.
This card bears a resemblance to the Baphomet, a medieval deity used as a symbol of duality, and in more recent times as a symbol of the Devil.
This card has two counterparts:
Nekroz of Sophia, with the same ATK, DEF, Level, intrincate Summoning requirements and a watered down mass removal effect.
Tierra, Source of Destruction, that has the same Level, but an opposite Type and Attribute (this card is a DARK Fairy-Type, whereas Tierra is a LIGHT Fiend-Type), reversed ATK and DEF values, harsh Summoning requirements, and similar mass removal effects that cannot be responded to.
In terms of appearance, Sophia has a natural, organic appearance, while Tierra is completely artificial and mechanical in form.
According to the Gagaga Academy Tospedia card storylines, Sophia appeared in response to the pleas of Winda, Priestess of Gusto praying in the Shrine of Mist Valley, and was Summoned by the monsters depicted in the final battle of the Duel Terminal:
Gem-Knight Master Diamond/Gishki Zielgigas
Constellar Ptolemy M7/Evilswarm Ouroboros
This card's Special Summoning condition refers to the powers of the Gishki (Ritual Monster), Gem-Knight (Fusion Monster), Gusto, Vylon, and Laval (Synchro Monster), lswarm and Constellar (Xyz Monster).
On closer inspection, this card seems to have a representation of each of the elemental Duel Terminal archetypes in its artwork. Sophia has two Gishki Aquamirrors for a bra (Gishki), two armbands with differently colored gems (Gem-Knight), a pair of green wings sprouting from her head (Gusto), flaming hair and a further modified crest of Laval tribe on her skirt (Laval), and orbs of light and darkness held in either hand (Vylon and Constellar, and Steelswarm and lswarm, respectively). In addition, there is a symbol of Dragunity between the two Gishki Aquamirrors. Also, the pattern of the tattoos on her arms resemble the plants commonly found in the artworks of Naturia and Ritual Beast cards.
This card's German lore has a major error; instead of Must be Special Summoned (from your hand) by banishing 1 face-up Ritual, Fusion, Synchro, and Xyz Monster from anywhere on the field, (), it is printed Must be Special Summoned (from your hand) by banishing 1 face-up Ritual, Fusion, Synchro, or Xyz Monster from anywhere on the field, () which would make it ridiculously easy to Summon this card.
Her name is mentioned in the flavor text of Qliphort Scout as the name of a computing folder, in which a file cannot be run due to some unknown error.
Part of this monster's design and posture alludes to a diagram of the human female reproductive system, further adding to the symbolism of a goddess and the theme of rebirth.
This card is the first Level 11 Fairy monster.
