Card Trivia

The two figures in this card's artwork are a reference to the two different Iseult in the Arthurian story of Tristan and Iseult.
The Iseult in royal appearance is based on Iseult of Ireland, the lover of Tristan, and the other is based on Iseult of Brittany, the eventual wife of the same Tristan.
The black and white sails on the background of those two women might be based on the story of Iseult of Brittany, where Tristan suffers a poisoned wound that only Iseult of Ireland, his initial lover, can cure. He asks Iseult of Ireland to come for him and flying the white sail on the ship if she comes, and black if she does not. She agreed to come and the ship races home, with white sails high. Since Tristan is too weak to move, he asks his current wife, Iseult of Brittany, to check the signal through the window, but due to her jealousy, she deceived him by saying that the ship has black sails, making Tristan immediately expire in despair. When the Irish Iseult arrives and find her lover dead, she grieves and passes away at his side.
