Card Trivia

This monster appears in the artworks of Deep Dark Trap Hole, Extra Net, and Summon Gate.
This monster is based on a Kabuki actor and/or Edo period police.
This monster is holding the same weapon that Jutte Fighter wields, a Jutte. This may reference to this card's debut in the anime in which Tetsu Trudge first Summoned it by tuning one of his Gate Blockers with Jutte Fighter.
The kanji behind this monster, 御用 (Goyou), means imperial use or patronage.
When this monster first released in The Duelist Genesis, it was considered the best level 6 Synchro Monster (the other one available at that time being Gaia Knight, the Force of Earth, and Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier in the OCG who only came in late 2009 in the TCG), because it was easy to Summon in relatively any deck, and its effect was very powerful. As such, it became one the most played Extra Deck monsters and was limited in March 2009 (both in TCG and OCG). Still being considered one of the best Level 6 Synchro monsters along with Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier, it was eventually forbidden in March 2011 (in both formats), and stayed so for a long time. Eventually, as time passed and the Metagame progressed, in the TCG, Goyo Guardian went back to Limited in July 2014. Then, probably because it didn't have as much impact as it had back then, it returned to Semi-Limited in January 2015, and to Unlimited in April 2015. However, it remained Forbidden in the OCG  although it was being considered not as good as before by the community. Still, it eventually got an Errata in the OCG 20th Anniversary Pack 2nd Wave and got back to Limited in January 2017, Semi-Limited in April 2017, and finally Unlimited in July 2017.
Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist came out before Goyo Guardian was changed to needing an EARTH Tuner monster whilst Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution came out after. Despite this the character's decks weren't changed to remove Goyo Guardian, causing most characters to be unable to summon it without assistance from the player.

The effect of "Goyo Guardian" is a Trigger Effect.: Goyo Guardian

It does not target.

If "Goyo Guardian" destroys an opponent's monster by battle and sends it to the Graveyard, its effect can be activated at the end of the Damage Step.

If "Goyo Guardian" battles a monster with the same ATK and both monsters are destroyed by battle, its effect cannot be activated.

If "Goyo Guardian" destroys a monster that you own in your opponent's Monster Zone, its effect can be activated. (If "Goyo Guardian" destroys a "Jutte Fighter" that you own in your opponent's Monster Zone, "Jutte Fighter" is Special Summoned from your Graveyard to your Monster Zone in Defense Position.): If "Goyo Guardian" destroys a monster that you own in your opponent's Monster Zone, can its effect be activated?

When "Goyo Guardian" destroys a Fusion, Synchro, or Xyz Monster in the Extra Monster Zone by battle and sends it to the Graveyard, "Goyo Guardian" can activate its effect and Special Summon that monster in Defense Position. When "Goyo Guardian" destroys a Link Monster in the Extra Monster Zone by battle and sends it to the Graveyard, "Goyo Guardian" cannot activate its effect.: If "Goyo Guardian" destroys a monster in the Extra Monster Zone, can its effect be activated?

Suppose "Goyo Guardian" destroys "Colossal Fighter" by battle and sends it to the Graveyard, and "Colossal Fighter" targets itself with its own effect. Since the effect of both "Goyo Guardian" and "Colossal Fighter" are optional effects that can be activated at the end of the Damage Step, the monster controlled by the turn player can activate its effect as Chain 1, and the other effect can be activated in a Chain.: When "Goyo Guardian" destroys "Colossal Fighter" by battle, if each effect is activated, then how does it resolve?
If the effect of "Goyo Guardian" is activated as Chain 1, and the effect of "Colossal Fighter" is activated as Chain 2, since "Colossal Fighter" Special Summons itself and is no longer in the Graveyard, the effect of "Goyo Guardian" is not applied.
If the effect of "Colossal Fighter" is activated as Chain 1, and the effect of "Goyo Guardian" is activated as Chain 2, since "Colossal Fighter" is Special Summoned by the effect "Goyo Guardian" and is no longer in the Graveyard, the effect of "Colossal Fighter
