 Darius is the father of Shahenshah (King of Kings) Xerxes I of the Persian Empire.

The Persian origin of the name could be related to Darius being a Laquerarii (a type of gladiator that wields a lasso), such gladiator type was inspired in the fighting style of an ancient Persian tribe, the Sagartians.

The effect "When this card is Special Summoned by the effect of a "Gladiator Beast" monster: You can target 1 "Gladiator Beast" monster in your Graveyard; Special Summon that target, but its effect(s) is negated by this card, and it is shuffled into the Deck when this card leaves the field" is a Trigger Effect. (It targets 1 "Gladiator Beast" monster in your Graveyard.): Gladiator Beast Darius

The effect of "Gladiator Beast Darius" continuously targets the Special Summoned monster. The effect "its effect(s) is negated by this card, and it is shuffled into the Deck when this card leaves the field" is applied. (Resolving "it is shuffled into the Deck when this card leaves the field" does not make a Chain Link.)

The effect "At the end of the Battle Phase, if this card attacked or was attacked: You can shuffle it into the Deck; Special Summon 1 "Gladiator Beast" monster from your Deck, except "Gladiator Beast Darius"" is a Trigger Effect. (It does not target. Returning "Gladiator Beast Darius" to the Deck is a cost to activate this effect.)

Because "Gladiator Beast Darius" battled, even if it battled during the opponent's turn, the effect can be activated at the end of this turn's Battle Phase.

Even if "Book of Moon" is activated in Chain to the effect of "Gladiator Beast Darius" that Special Summons a monster from the Graveyard so that "Gladiator Beast Darius" is flipped to face-down Defense Position, the "Gladiator Beast" monster in the Graveyard is Special Summoned normally with its effects being negated. Previously Official Rulings

The "Gladiator Beast" monster Special Summoned by "Gladiator Beast Darius" is continually targeted by its effect.

Returning the Special Summoned "Gladiator Beast" monster to the Deck does not start a Chain.

If the Special Summoned "Gladiator Beast" attacks or is attacked, it can be returned to the Deck to activate its effect, but the effect will be negated by "Gladiator Beast Darius".

While "Skill Drain" is active, if "Gladiator Beast Darius" is removed from the field, the Special Summoned "Gladiator Beast" monster will remain on the field. If the Special Summoned "Gladiator Beast" monster attacks or is attacked, and it is returned to the Deck to activate its effect, the effect will not be negated because "Gladiator Beast Darius" effects are being negated by "Skill Drain".

When "Gladiator Beast Darius" is flipped face-down, its effect disappears and the effects of the Special Summoned "Gladiator Beast" monster are no longer negated. If "Gladiator Beast Darius" is removed from the field while face-down, the Special Summoned "Gladiator Beast" monster will not be returned to the Deck.
