Card Trivia

The silhouette in this card's artwork is Yusuke Fujiwara.
The penalties this card inflicts for each Attribute are based on the characteristics of that Attribute, either in gameplay or in terms of their cultural associations:
LIGHT: Reveals the player's hand. LIGHT has no real gameplay focus, but light by its nature is associated with revealing what is hidden, and this effect reflects that 'revealing' property back on itself.
DARK: Prevents attacking, either while controlling 2 or more monsters (TCG/OCG effect) or without caveat (anime effect). DARK monsters frequently swarm (TCG/OCG effect) and the Attribute is generally aggressive (both versions). Considering the associations darkness has with evil and destruction, it could also be interpreted as sealing the Attribute's destructive capacity.
EARTH: Destroys a Defense Position monster (or any monster, in the anime). EARTH monsters (particularly Rock monsters) frequently have high DEF. Aside from the Rock Type, EARTH isn't strongly associated with any particular strategy, which may be why its anime effect is similarly generic.
WATER: Forces discards. Particularly in the past, when this card was released, WATER had some mild hand control themes. Also, forcing discards disrupts the opponent's strategy, as opposed to being a straightforward attack on their field or Life Points, and the element of water is associated with passivity, subtlety, and (in martial arts) disruption.
FIRE: Inflicts effect damage, which is strongly associated with this Attribute.
WIND: Restricts activation of Spell Cards. WIND monsters frequently have Spell/Trap removal effects, and a large number of Spell/Trap Cards that do Spell/Trap removal are based on wind and storms (Mystical Space Typhoon, Heavy Storm, Giant Trunade, etc).
This is the first Field Spell Card to be released as a Secret Rare.
The effects of this card in the TCG/OCG when DARK, WIND and EARTH monsters are on the field differ when compared to the effects of this card in the anime and Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Tag Force 3. Also, this card did not have a Maintenance Cost when used in the anime and Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Tag Force 3.

Rulings

TCG Rulings

If you control a monster with an effect that treats it as having multiple Attributes, all the relevant effects of "Clear World" will apply to you.: Stardust Overdrive Sneak Peek -- Card Rulings (Version 1.0)

Even if "Field Barrier" is active, if you don't pay the cost of "Clear World" during the End Phase it will be destroyed.

You still have to pay 500 Life Points to activate Spell Cards if you control a WIND monster, even if you also control "Spell Economics."

The WIND effect of "Clear World" only applies to activating Spell Cards. You do not have to pay Life Points when you activate the effect of a Spell Card that is already face-up on the field.

If you control "Clear Vice Dragon" and any EARTH, FIRE, or WATER monsters, the effect of "Clear World" will start a Chain but it will resolve without effect.

The EARTH, FIRE, and WATER effects of "Clear World" each start their own Chain. You do not form a single Chain with all 3 effects.

The LIGHT, DARK, and WIND effects of "Clear World" do not start a Chain.

OCG Rulings

The text "Pay 500 Life Points during each of your End Phases. If you do not, then destroy this card." of "Clear World" is a maintenance cost.: Spell Card > Clear World

The "EARTH", "FIRE", and "WATER" effects of "Clear World" activate and start Chain Links. The "LIGHT", "DARK", and "WIND" effects do not start Chain Links.: Does each different effects of "Clear World" start a Chain Link?

The effect "●WIND: You must pay 500 Life Points to activate a Spell Card." of "Clear World" only applies to when a Spell Card is activated from the hand, or when a face-down Spell Card is activated. You do not pay 500 Life Points to activate the effect of a Spell Card which is already face-up on the field, like "Miracle Fertilizer" or "Blaze Accelerator".: For the "●WIND:" effect of "Clear World", do you pay 500 Life Points when the effect of a face-up Continuous Spell Card is activated?

If the effect "The effect of "Clear World" is not applied to the controller of this card while this card is face-up on the field." of "Clear Vice Dragon" is active, then the "EARTH", "WATER", and "FIRE" effects of "Clear World" still activate and start Chain Links, even though the effects are not applied.: Do the effects of "Clear World" activate even while "Clear Vice Dragon" is face-up on the field?

For the effect "●WIND: A player cannot activate a Spell Card unless he pays 500 Life Points." of "Clear World", the 500 Life Points paid are not considered to be an activation cost for a Spell Card. Thus, even if the effect "You do not have to pay any Life Points to activate a Spell Card." of "Spell Economics" is active, then you still must pay the 500 Life Points to activate a Spell Card.: If the "●WIND" effect of "Clear World" and the effect of "Spell Economics" are both active, then must you pay 500 Life Points when you activate a Spell Card?

If the effect of "Field Barrier" is active, then "Clear World" still is destroyed if you do not pay 500 Life Points during your End Phase.: If the maintenance cost of "Clear World" is not paid, then is it destroyed if the effect of "Field Barrier" is applied?
