Card Trivia

This card is one of 4 Bujin Beast-Warrior-Type monsters that resemble characters from Yu-Gi-Oh! GX (in this case, Alexis Rhodes).
The name Hirume comes from one of the solar goddess Amaterasu's many names, Ōhirume-no-muchi-no-kami. This may make Hirume the first female Beast-Warrior-Type Bujin.
Hirume (variously spelt 日孁, 日霊 or 日女) is an old compound that meant sun girl (as in hi sun and me female), as opposed to Hiruko. The hiru part has been misconstrued as meaning leech, especially in the kanji spelling of Hiruko (蛭子, literally leech child/boy). The notion of a sun girl also gave rise to the word 姫 (hime princess), as in a girl descended from the solar goddess Amaterasu.
This monster appears in the artwork of Bujincident.
The artworks of the 4 Bujin Beast-Warrior-Type monsters illustrate different times of day. The artwork of Bujin Hirume depicts either sunrise or the morning sun.
Bujin Hiruko was responsible for corrupting this monster to become Bujinki Amaterasu.
