This card is based on the final boss of Gradius II: Gofer no Yabou (Gofer’s Ambition, or The Ambitions of Gofer), known in Europe as Vulcan Venture. Gofer itself is actually a completely separate entity from the true threat, Bacterion; though he admits to being but a small portion of the empire.
Interestingly enough, the ship pictured in this card does not resemble any models of the Vic Viper featured within the card game; the ship depicted is actually the Vixen, the ship used in the MSX game Gofer no Yabou Episode II, also commonly known as Nemesis 3: The Eve of Destruction, in place of the Vic Viper. More specifically, it is the Type A Vixen, which contained the classic, default Gradius weaponry.
